In 2011, ultramarathon runner Dean Karnazes set himself a challenge that turned the familiar idea of a cross-country road trip into a relentless endurance test. Starting at Disneyland in California on February 25, he set out to run all the way to New York City. Over the next 75 days, Karnazes covered nearly 3,000 miles, routinely running 40 to 50 miles a day through deserts, mountains, plains and cities. The journey was organised with Live! with Regis and Kelly and was intended to encourage children and families to become more physically active.
