Rugby evening headlines as Jeremy Guscott delivers England v Wales verdict and Jonathan Davies says Eddie Jones' men can look 'ordinary'

Here are your rugby evening headlines for Sunday Feb 20

Guscott says Wales win won't surprise him

Jeremy Guscott reckons England and Wales are each looking frail heading to Twickenham this week and reckons the result could go either way.

The England centre legend believes Eddie Jones' men are favourites to win, but said: "Nothing will shock me about the outcome of this match - whereas an England win in Paris in the last round would."

In a column for The Rugby Paper, Guscott argued France and Ireland are a cut above the other Six Nations teams.

Looking ahead to the Twickenham clash, he wrote: "Wales have big game players in Dan Biggar and Taine Basham, but they also have a string of big injuries so they are properly disrupted.

"A lot of people wree surprised they beat Scotland because they looked frail against Ireland, whereas Scotland counter-punched well against England.

"The error by Finn Russell proved crucial in Cardiff, but generally Wales and England are in very similar situations and it has left their fans asking 'where's the world class glitter?'

"Louis Rees-Zammit is the stardust in the Welsh side, but the Darcy Graham try is a video nasty for him.

"England need to shut up their critics with their level of performance.

"I make England favourites because they are at home and because the two teams have frailities. However, nothing will shock me about the outcome of this match."

England can look ordinary - Jiffy

Guscott's old BBC fellow pundit Jonathan Davies believes Twickenham could be a nip and tuck affair and says Wayne Pivac's side are more than capable of winning.

The key, says Jiffy, is to match England's power pack.

If things begin to go wrong he argues Eddie Jones' men can start to look 'ordinary'.

Davies told the same paper: "I was encouraged by what I saw from the Welsh forwards against Scotland because I thought they carried very well and got over the gain line.

"The key thing playing England is if you let them get on top of you physically they can blow you away, but if you gain parity up front they can be made to look ordinary.

"Wales improved significantly up front against Scotland. Okay, England at Twickenham is another level altogether, but if Wales can match England up front they've got a real chance because they're a dogged team with a good defence who are good in a scrap.

"If it's tight going into the final quarter it'll be interesting to see how England react."

Gray blow for Scots

Scotland's hopes of bouncing back from their defeat to Wales took a blow when lock Johnny Gray was ruled out of the coming clash with France.

Gray has not recovered from a foot injury and missed Exeter's English Premiership clash with Newcastle on Sunday.

His absence from the pack spells bad news for the Scots, who need to find a way of countering the fearsome French eight.

Scottish skipper Stuart Hogg was also absent from Exeter action, but he is expected to be fit for the Murrayfield match.

Dragons fall to another loss

Ulster moved back up to second in the United Rugby Championship table with a 12-0 victory over the Dragons at a wet and windswept Rodney Parade.

The Welsh region never looked like ending their miserable run against Ulster, with the Dragons having not beaten the province in 11 attempts since March 2015.

Marcus Rea and John Andrew scored Ulster's tries, while Nathan Doak kicked a conversion.
