Ruben Amorim’s first Manchester United press conference – LIVE!
The newly appointed Man Utd manager will speak to the media for the first time since arriving from Sporting ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Ipswich. There is huge excitement about the 39-year-old, who thrashed Manchester City in the Champions League before leaving the Portuguese giants earlier this month.
Plenty is likely to be on the agenda as Amorim speaks from the club’s Carrington training base. Amorim will no doubt be asked about his style of play amid strong suggestions he will quickly instal a three-man defensive unit, while the links with Manchester City will surely be addressed.
Amorim has made all the right noises so far and judgements will be reserved to what happens on the pitch but it will be fascinating to hear what he has to say. Follow all the updates and latest news LIVE with Standard Sport’s blog!

Ruben Amorim on his system
14:24 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne"As a coach you have to choose one way or another, I choose always 100 per cent our way. I choose to risk a bit.
"I believe so much in our way of playing, they will believe too. There is no second way.
"We will adapt some players because we don’t have a different profile. Maybe on Sunday you will see the starting 11 and not feel a lot of change but you will see it in the game and the positioning or where they receive the ball."
Amorim on his two-and-a-half year contract
14:19 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne"I have two years and a half of contract. I think two years you can understand if I am the right manager to go in this process.
"We will need more time, if you look to the clubs who are winning this league, they are doing this process for a long time.
"I understand we will need more than two and a half years, we have to win something, somewhere, but in two years you can understand if you want to continue this path or change."
Amorim on recruitment influence
14:14 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne“We have to improve the process of recruitment, the data. I think it is all together, but the final word should be the manager, not because it is your right but because it is your responsibility.
“I have to understand the league and then when everything is aligned, everyone is on the same page, we can buy and sell players.”
Amorim reveals message from Jose Mourinho
14:08 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne"He sent me a message. He said it is a big club, with lovely people. It still is. That is correct.
"A lot of things have changed. We are in a different building now and building a new one.
"I am a different guy. I was learning and I hope to teach my players a few things.
"This is still the best club in England and we want to win.”
Amorim says Man United must improve physically
14:06 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne"I do not know about repair. But we have space to grow as a team. We have to improve in a lot of areas the understanding of the game.
"I know it is a different way of playing and we are changing our way of playing in the middle of the season.
"We have to improve the physical aspect of the team.
"I do not know how long it will take.
"I know you have to win games at Man Utd. So I will not tell you that I need a lot of time. Of course, we need a lot of time because it is the strongest league in the world and we have to improve a lot to try to win it.
"We have to win games to win time and then to win titles."
Amorim thinking positively
14:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne"I am little bit of a dreamer, I believe in myself but also the club. We have the same mindset. That can help.
"I truly believe in the players. I know that you guys do not. We have room to improve.
"I want to try new things. You guys think it is not possible, I think it is possible. We will see in the end."
Amorim's first impression of Man United
14:04 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne"[The club is] bigger [than expected]. There is a lot of departments. So different to Sporting.
"This is a global club. There is so much to do, not just coaching the team.
"I have a lot to do, but I have a lot of help. A lot of meetings. So I am improving in these areas.
"I feel very happy and very comfortable, so I feel at home."
Amorim on where Man United can improve
14:03 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne“If you want to speak about the way we play, we lose the ball too often, so we need to keep the ball better.
“We need to be better running back and I think that’s clear for everybody. We have to be clear in the small details.”
Here we go!
13:55 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneHere’s your five-minute warning as Ruben Amorim’s first Manchester United press conference is about to start.
Ferdinand makes Amorim claim
13:50 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRuben Amorim’s character and charisma will be the biggest difference in comparison to Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
That is the view of Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand who has been in contact with those who know Amorim closely to gain an insight as to what the 39-year-old is like and what the players can expect.
"From what I'm hearing, I'm talking to people that have played for [him] but also been around [him] as a human, I think the character and the charisma compared to Erik ten Hag will be the big differentiator, will be the big difference."

Dalot praises Amorim appointment
13:45 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneDiogo Dalot believes Manchester United and new head coach Ruben Amorim will form 'a perfect match'.
Although the full-back has not worked with his compatriot before, he’s heard plenty of positive things from those who are more familiar with his compatriot.
“Personally I don’t know him,” he told the Premier League.
“What I know is from what I see, from what I get from my national team team-mates. He’s obviously a fantastic coach, with a young mentality, but at the same time he knows what he wants.
“He’s very demanding – that’s what I can expect and I think that’s the perfect match for a club like this.
“The standards are really high. He is a person that you can see has really high standards and he stands by them, so I hope that can be a really good match and that we can win together.
“That’s what I hope the most.”

Carragher shares Amorim suspicion
13:30 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneLiverpool legend Jamie Carragher feels Ruben Amorim could be in for a shock when he manages Manchester United for the first time this weekend.
Writing in his Telegraph column, the Sky Sports pundit said:
"My suspicion is it will be much trickier than many think. United are not just playing Ipswich at Portman Road. They face a manager who arguably knows more about the strengths and weaknesses within United's squad than the new coach."
Ruben Amorim first six fixtures as Manchester United
13:20 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneAfter Ipswich and Bodo/Glimt, December will be a tough baptism of fire for Amorim as Everton (H), Arsenal (A), Nottingham Forest (H) and Viktoria Plzen (A) round off his first six fixtures as United head coach.
Things don't get any easier after that either, as his side face local rivals Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur - the latter in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals - away from home in the space of three days before Christmas.
Ruben Amorim’s first home game as Manchester United manager
13:15 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneFour days after the trip to Ipswich Town, Amorim will be in the Old Trafford dugout for the first time as United boss as they host Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League.
Amorim's true fee
13:11 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneAt the beginning of the month, in a statement announcing Ruben Amorim's departure, Sporting CP detailed the fee paid by Man United to secure the 39-year-old’s services.
Totalling up to £10.6m, there was the extra £1.4m compensation fee that suggests United’s determination to bring in Amorim at whatever cost.

Ruben Amorim warned
13:00 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneSpeaking to Tribal Football, former Man United coach Rene Meulensteen has warned Ruben Amorim it may take him 18 months to implement his style at Old Trafford.
"Ruben Amorim has plenty of charisma, he has the tactical acumen and he’s done the right things in saying that he wants to create a strong identity at Manchester United.
"Whether he will be a long-term success at the club, only time will tell, but I do know that it will take about 18 months to get his style embedded into the team.
"He knows that it’s all about performances and results whether you are an experienced manager or a young manager.
"The first hurdle for Ruben Amorim at Manchester United will be implementing his new system so that everyone knows their individual roles and responsibilities; that won’t happen overnight.”
Issues for Amorim to solve
12:55 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneIt’s quite clearly a long-term project at Man United, and there almost certainly will be pain along the way.

Man United predicted XI vs Ipswich Town.
12:50 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneAs Ruben Amorim prepares to take charge of Manchester United for the first time in Sunday’s Premier League trip to Ipswich, we’ve predicted the team he will select.
Widely expected to continue with the 3-4-3 system upon which he has built his success in Portuguese football, we think Diogo Dalot will be handed a new role as Manuel Ugarte starts.
A trip down memory lane
12:46 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneAlmost 30 years ago Manchester United thrashed Ipswich Town, more of the same in Ruben Amorim’s first game in charge would go down a treat among Red Devils supporters.

In particular, 16-year-old Godwill Kukonki was called up to the session.
Ruben Amorim's priority
12:27 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneRuben Amorim has revealed his first priority as Manchester United manager is to restore the club’s "identity".
"We know that we need time, but we have to win time. To win time is to win games. But the most important thing for me is identity.
"Since day one we will start with our identity. Of course we are going to prepare (for) the games, but we will focus a lot on our game model. How to play, how to press, these small details.
"You cannot go 100% on every detail because it will be confusing for the players. So if I have to say one thing, my main goal, my first goal, is identity."
