RTE star Jennifer Zamparelli says 2FM hosts need to 'get on with the gig' after controversy

RTE radio star Jennifer Zamparelli has said 2FM presenters need to “get on with the gig” after a rocky start to the year at the station.

2FM has had a challenging few months, with backlash over Louise McSharry’s departure, Keith Walsh criticising the station and the 2 Johnnies temporarily being taken off air weeks after they started.

But the Dancing With The Stars host believes everyone needs to get on with their gigs, adding she feels like the station is in a good place now with “consistent” presenters on its books.

She said: “That’s something to be proud of. It just needs to settle now and we need to get on with the gig.”

Speaking to Woman’s Way magazine, mum-of-two Jennifer also revealed she also got “a bit of stick” for changing her surname from Maguire to Zamparelli when she married husband Lau.

She added: “Not from my family and friends because Zamparelli is a way cooler name. I didn’t think much about it but I really wanted to have the same name as my kids.

“And each to their own, as everybody does what’s right for them.”

Last month, Jennifer discussed on her 2FM show about how she made the decision to undergo female tubal sterilisation "hastily".

She said at the time: "I had it while I was having Enzo. So while I had a C-section, I had my tubes tied. I don't think I put a lot of thought into it at the time. I didn't, and that's me.

"That's my problem with these things. I'm very hasty and I make quick decisions. Generally I don't think things through. I don't think 'well what are the consequences of this in five years time? In five years time, in ten years time,' I'm just like 'what is good for me?'

"I was so sick in my pregnancy, to the point where I could barely get out of bed or go to work. I was like, there is no way I could do this again.

"But, of course, when you have the child, you forget about all that. You think, 'I could definitely go again.' It was just one of those things. I think I made a really hasty decision with it."

Jennifer said opening the conversation on air with pal Lottie Ryan will hopefully make women “think twice” about having a procedure like that.
