Claire Byrne is now the red-hot favourite to take over from Ryan Tubridy as host of The Late Late Show - with the latest betting odds also throwing Doireann Garrihy into the mix.
According to Paddy Power, a string of bets were placed on the Dancing With The Stars co-host overnight. Castleknock native Doireann began yesterday as a 40/1 outside shot, but Paddy Power have since cut her odds to 12/1 after sustained support for the popular presenter overnight.
The latest move now puts her into joint fourth favourite position alongside Katie Hannon, and has seen her leapfrog popular viewer choices such as Tommy Tiernan and Dara Ó Briain in the betting. Meanwhile, Claire Byrne still remains the 4/11 4/11 favourite to replace Tubridy.
Earlier this month, Tubridy announced his plans to leave The Late Late Show after 14 years with his last show on May 24, and speculation has only grown over who could replace him. Paddy power has also listed Sarah McInerney and Angela Scanlon also among the frontrunners at 3/1 and 6/1 respectively.
Rachael Kane, a spokesperson for Paddy Power, said: “Doireann may have made her mark on Dancing With The Stars but a lot of our punters will be dancing on tables should she land the role after starting off as an outside bet.
"We don’t know what caused this sudden flurry, but if our betting activity is anything to go on, something seems to be afoot," she added.
Claire has in recent days broken her silence over will become the next presenter of RTE's Late Late Show. She is set to host RTE's new quiz show, Ireland's Smartest, from next month and was previously host of the current affairs show Claire Byrne Live.
Claire said: "I was as surprised as anyone to hear the news of Ryan's decision but when I interviewed him on the radio I could tell he was very happy with his choice and that really is the most important thing. He has given The Late Late Show his heart and soul for 14 years and left an incredible mark on Irish TV history."
