Royal fans puzzled by Kate Middleton's comments on Prince Louis' schooling

As the children of Prince and Princess of Wales begin their summer holidays, some royal fans outside of England have been left perplexed by comments made by mum Kate Middleton.

Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are now able to put their feet up after their terms at Lambrook School ended and it means they will be able to enjoy the summer months at their Windsor home.

And with Louis completing his first year at school, his mum commented on the five-year-old now leaving reception, the Mirror reports.

William and Kate are said to be keen to allow their children as normal an upbringing as possible and little is known about what the children are like in class.

However, mum Kate did give an update on her children's school recently - but fans were left baffled by her comments about Louis.

It came last month when Kate met with a group of schoolchildren while officially re-opening the Young V&A museum in east London.

There some curious youngsters asked questions about George, Charlotte and Louis' school and what years they were in.

In a video posted to Tik Tok, Kate can be seen patiently explaining to them that before the holidays: "My daughter Charlotte is going into Year 4 next year. I'm Charlotte's mummy. And then George is in Year 5. And Louis' in reception."

But fans outside England were left scratching their heads, at Louis being described as being in reception.

Of course, those in England know reception refers to the first year of formal school in the country, but it seemed this needed explaining to some abroad.

One commented on the video: "Louis' in reception sounds like she left him in the lobby or something." While another asked: "What is reception? Like preschool?". And one said: "What does in reception mean?"

It's not yet known what the Wales family will get up to given that the children are now on their summer holidays - but in previous years, they have enjoyed a sun-soaked staycation at a place close to their hearts.

For the past three years, they've headed to the Isles of Scilly to holiday on the stunning island of Tresco.

The island is part of an archipelago off the coast of Cornwall and is where Prince William spent summers with his parents, King Charles and the late Princess Diana.

Joining them on holiday last year was their black spaniel Orla - and the family stayed in a rectory that comes complete with a walled garden.

William and Kate gave a clue that they had enjoyed a staycation rather than a holiday abroad when they released a new picture to mark George's ninth birthday.

The snap, taken by Kate, showed the youngster giving a big toothy grin amid a beach scene - and Kensington Palace said it had been taken on a family break in the UK.

However, it was not revealed where in the UK this family break had taken place - although some royal fans guessed it could have been on the Isles of Scilly.
