Royal expert slammed for claims Meghan is behind Harry's book and calls for title removal

Royal expert Tom Bower has faced huge backlash online after he claimed Meghan Markle was the one who had written Prince Harry's upcoming memoir.

The former BBC journalist, 76, called for the Duchess of Sussex, 41, to have her titled removed as he discussed the upcoming release of 38-year-old Harry's book, Spare.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain on Monday morning, Tom, who this year released an unauthorised book on Harry and Meghan titled Revenge, criticised the Duchess.

As he debated on whether Meghan and Harry should lose their royal titles, Tom said: "He'll keep his princely title, it's Meghan I'm after."

Tom then explosively accused the Duchess of Sussex of being the real writer behind Harry's new memoir.

He said: "Meghan is the person who has dictated this agenda. Why? Because she wants fame and fortune."

Ed Balls, who was hosting the show alongside Susanna Reid, said: "The book is by Harry? It’s not even by Meghan!"

Bower then added: "Do you think he's read it?," as Susanna hit back with: "He's written it!" And Strictly star Ed added: "He's going to read it for the audio book."

"Well, let's see," Tom said as he laughed. "Meghan has actually read every word, Meghan is a highly intelligent, sophisticated woman."

Continuing his blistering attack he added: "William saw through her, Charles saw through her, Diana’s brother Charles Spencer saw through her, she was adventurous, who came here to make fame and fortune, gone back to America, is exploiting the royal title…"

Tom's comments infuriated viewers who took to Twitter to slam him. One said: "Tom Bower on TV saying with his chest what we all know, 'I don’t mind Harry it is Meghan I am after'. Thank you @ ITV and @GMB for continuing to platform this racist, sexist, misogynistic excuse of a human being. And don’t @ me with 'it’s not about her race'."

"'It’s Meghan I’m after' A royal ‘biographer’ on national tv talking about Prince Harry ’s memoir, openly threatening Meghan. Absolutely disgusting #GMB," another added.

While a third said: "@GMB whilst I’m no fan of Meghan Markle, Tom Bower admitting ‘it’s her I’m after’ made me feel very uncomfortable.

"By all means call out ‘inaccuracies’ in interviews, books, podcasts, etc BUT the vitriol with which he made that statement was sinister and disgusting.".

And a fourth added: "It’s Meghan I'm after." Tom Bower clearly threatening the Duchess of Sussex on television. UNACCEPTABLE!!"

Prince Harry's highly-anticipated biography, Spare, is due to be released on January 10.

A description of the book from publisher Penguin Random House claimed it will take "readers immediately back to one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow – and horror".

It added: "As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on. For Harry, this is his story at last.

"With its raw, unflinching honesty, Spare is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief."
