Royal Ascot 2023: Tips on all the races ahead of day one's action

The best week of flat racing in the British horse racing calendar is upon us with plenty of action to look forward over the next five days to showcase the pinnacle of the sports talent from the horses to the jockeys too.

Five days of top-class flat racing with competitors coming from across the globe as Ascot continues to attract some of the world's top talent. But many will be keen to see how legendary jockey Frankie Dettori will do in his last Royal Ascot appearance.

In a career that spanned four decades including 77 wins at Ascot, the 52-year-old jockey will be keen to reach an impressive 80 wins come the end of the week. He is the most successful active jockey at the meeting and has finished leading jockey an impressive seven times.

2.30 Queen Anne Stakes - Inspiral 2/1

Ridden by jockey Frankie Dettori, many punters and fans alike will be keeping a close eye on Inspiral ahead of the opening race. The four-year-old filly was not impressive in her last outing back in October at Ascot after a slow start lost her several lengths before finishing sixth but that is the only time she has finished outside the top two in her career - including last year's Royal Ascot.

3.05 Coventry Stakes - Givemethebeatboys 7/2

Two solid wins in Curragh and Navan back in May have persuaded the bookies to shorten the odds but still behind the likes of Asadna and favourite River Tiber.

3.40 King's Stand Stakes - Highfield Princess - 9/4

An extremely versatile and impressive winner in last year's meetings at Curragh, York and Deauville, Highfield Princess is definitely one to watch as trainer John Quinn looks to secure a winning start in one of his five entries this week.

4.20 St James's Palace Stakes - Chaldean 2/1

Despite unseating Frankie Dettori in April's meeting at Newbury, Chaldean goes into this match with five wins in his last six meetings. Making his Royal Ascot, the 3-year-old goes into the Stakes as the favourite but Aidan O'Brien's Paddington will be looking to compete at 5/2.

5.00 Ascot Stakes - Ahorsewithnoname 15/2

A solid performance at Cheltenham last month on the new course has definitely got some talking about Nicky Henderson's horse potentially frustrating trainer Willie Mullins as Bring On The Night goes into the day as the favourite despite a picking up just two wins in his last five outings.

5.35 Wolferton Stakes - King Of Conquest 8/1

Solid overall rating at 112 alongside Francesco Clemente at 5/1 and the favourite Buckaroo too makes King Of Conquest a solid shout for either an each-way bet or even an outside chance to win it. Wins at Goodwood and Newmarket last month have definitely put Charlie Appleby's horse in a superb position - especially when they saw off Francesco Clemente in West Sussex too.

6.10 Copper Horse Handicap - Vauban 7/4

Willie Mullins will be looking to see favourite Vauban deliver the goods after the Irish trainer watched the Ricci-owned horse finish in the top three in the last four meetings. He was in touch with the leaders in the Champion Hurdle during Cheltenham Festival but favourite Constitution Hill lived up to expectation in that one.
