Roy Keane shows his funny side with hilarious reply to autograph request

Roy Keane was known as a tough footballer throughout his playing career and is now seen as a no-nonsense pundit.

But there is another side to the Manchester United legend, which he has started to show a bit more of since joining Instagram.

Artist Niall Swords recently came across a note Keane sent him after he asked the former midfielder to sign one of his drawings.

Keane signed the drawing and wrote a note to accompany it.

It read: "To Niall. Sort me out with a picture when you become famous, ha, ha. Best wishes."

Sharing a snap of the note on Twitter, Niall said: "Just found this whilst rummaging through some boxes, a card I recieved from Roy Keane almost 20 years ago, after I sent him one of my drawings to sign."

When asked did he ever send Keane a photo, Niall replied: "Lol no not at all, maybe when I’m famous."

A number of fans commented on the post as they praised Keane for the hilarious reply.

One posted: "He kept an open heart to recah out to the fans. Brilliant gesture Niall!"

Another said: "That could possibly be the only written laugh by Roy Keane in existence!"

It comes as TV presenter Laura Woods described Keane as "warm" and "generous" after working with him earlier this week.

She said on talkSport: “The game in itself, Peterborough put up such a good fight in the first half and the quality wasn’t quite there for Man City.

“You know what City can do, but it wasn’t quite there.

“The highlight for me, though, was sitting next to Roy Keane. I’m obsessed, I just think he’s the best person.

“He was wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. I’ve worked with him once before in the Carabao Cup final last year and was a little bit scared of him because you are as you know his persona.”

Gabby Agbonlahor, who has been critical of Keane in the past, interrupted by saying: “Maybe you need to do a Man United game where they are losing!”

But Woods replied: “Maybe I’ve been lucky. With a pundit, all you can ask is they answer all your questions.

“During the game, I just sat next to him for a little bit to say ‘tell me what you think Peterborough are doing right, what more do you want from City?’

“He was so generous with his information and so warm, I just loved it. It was great.

“Joe Cole was good too… morning Joe!

“I’m always quite overwhelmed by Roy Keane.”
