Roy Keane is Hibs managerial candidate but Manchester United legend could take some convincing

Roy Keane has emerged as a candidate to replace Shaun Maloney at Hibs.

The Manchester United legend has reportedly discussed the vacancy with friends as he ponders a return to the dugout after over a decade away.

The Irishman last managed Ipswich Town but hasn't held the top job at a club since, although has been assistant to Martin O'Neill at Nottingham Forest, Aston Villa and with the Republic of Ireland national team.

Keane, 50, was approached by Sunderland last year before talks stalled.

However, it's understood he'd consider Easter Road as his next destination, although reportedly has doubts after the quick-fire dismissals of Maloney and predecessor Jack Ross.

Keane has admitted he may struggle to find a club willing to take a chance on him.

Despite winning promotion to the Premier League with the Black Cats in 2007, Keane believes his chances may be limited as more chairmen see him as a Sky Sports pundit nowadays.

But with Ron Gordon apparently ready to try and 'convince' the ex-Celtic man to join his club after Maloney was axed, Keane's comments in a recent interview with Jamie Carragher feel somewhat out of date already.

Speaking for SportBible Keano was asked if he felt like a manager in a pundits role, to which he responded: "I did up til recently, but I almost feel recently, I think, those days are over for me now, going back into management.

"I really feel like that. I'm 50 now, I'm doing the TV. Obviously, I'm labelled as more of a pundit now.

"But no, no, I feel I'm getting my head round it. It's maybe more of a head job that is the role for me and over the next few years, I think I can't see a club really giving me a real good opportunity to get back into it.

"But I don't mind that either. I'm not fearful of going, Well, you might do the TV for the next two or three years.'

"I'm fine with that, because I do count my blessings, because I know, as you know, there's a lot of ex-players looking to get back into it, and yeah, I'm okay with that."
