Roy Keane heaps praise on Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden as England smash Senegal

Roy Keane has heaped praise on two of England's youngest stars Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden as Gareth Southgate's side booked their place in the World Cup quarter-final.

England recovered from a shaky start to put Senegal to the sword during a blistering period at the end of the first half and beginning of the second. Jude Bellingham laid the ball on a plate for Jordan Henderson to open the scoring, while Phil Foden assisted goals for both Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka.

Bellingham ran the show from the middle of the park and dominated throughout. Despite being just 19, Bellingham has become a star man for England and perhaps even more impressively, has a big fan in the former Manchester United captain Keane.

"Absolutely amazing. I think he's brilliant now, absolutely brilliant," said Keane.

"He's made a point there about adding more goals to his game at international level - he does score at club level.

"He plays with a maturity, he's got everything you want in a midfielder in the middle of the park in terms of his physique, his maturity, his decision-making, his skill.

"This finish here [his goal against Iran] is fantastic. You remember all the brilliant England midfielders over the years - people like Bryan Robson, Scholesy, Lampard, Gerrard - if you can add that to your game, that final bit of having goals... as I said he's a brilliant player anyway."

Keane also had plenty of praise for Foden. Putting his Manchester United allegiances to one side, Keane commended the Manchester City youngster for an extremely mature display.

"I've not seen a young midfielder perform like that in years, you usually see that from a world-class player that's 26 or 27.

"You talk about what goes on in his brain - he's like a man - he's got that maturity, and decision making.

"What's going on upstairs is huge for a midfielder - decision making, end product, final pass - the kid has everything."

This is now the third major tournament in a row in which England have reached the quarter-finals of an International competition. This has only happened twice before in England's history.

With the win, England are now set for a mouthwatering showdown with France in the last eight on Saturday. Kylian Mbappe fired the reigning World Champions into the next round with two stunning goals in a 3-1 win over Poland.
