Roy Keane surprised everyone when he took the time to give a shoutout to Cobh Ramblers during ITV's World Cup coverage on Saturday evening.
Keane is one of Ireland's greatest-ever players and represented Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Celtic during his glittering career. As a player, Keane won Premier Leagues, FA Cups, and a Champions League title along with being considered one of United's best captains.
It all began however in Cork with Cobh Ramblers in the League of Ireland. As a teenager, Keane spent a season with Cobh before moving to Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest in 1990.

Manchester United came calling three years later and the rest, as they say, is history. But Keane has never forgotten the role that Cobh played in his career. The 51-year-old was inducted into the Irish club's hall of fame on Friday, and paid tribute to his old club, which is celebrating its 100 year anniversary, on ITV last night.
“Cobh… brilliant," began Keane in conversation with ITV presenter Mark Pougatch
“I had one year with Cobh Ramblers - League of Ireland, - which was brilliant, a great education for me and they’re 100-years-old this year, so well done to them. A real help to me in my career, and I’m very grateful to them for that.
“I’ve always said I’ve been very lucky in my career. Going to Cobh for the year was a great help for me in terms of my development.”
