Roy Keane favourite to replace Shaun Maloney at Hibernian according to Paddy Power

Roy Keane has emerged as the surprise favourite to become the new manager of Hibernian according to Irish bookmakers Paddy Power.

The Manchester United favourite has been made the clear favourite at 6/4 to take over at Easter Road following the sacking of former manager Shaun Maloney.

And a Keane double act at Easter Road seems likely, as Paddy Power have made Robbie Keane 8/1 favourite to become Roy's assistant manager at the Scottish club. The bookmakers also reckon Roy will be a success at Hibs, as he’s priced at 3/1 to win silverware during his time as Hibs boss.

Just last week, Keane seemed to call time on his career as a football manager. When asked if he feels like a 'manager doing punditry' by Jamie Carragher on a SPORTbible video recently, Keane said: "I did up until recently, but I almost feel recently, I think, those days are over for me now, going back into management.

"I really feel like that. I'm 50 now, I'm doing the TV. Obviously, I'm labelled as more of a pundit now.

"But no, no, I feel I'm getting my head round it. It's maybe more of a head job that is the role for me and over the next few years, I think I can't see a club really giving me a real good opportunity to get back into it.

"But I don't mind that either. I'm not fearful of going, 'Well, you might do the TV for the next two or three years.' I'm fine with that, because I do count my blessings, because I know, as you know, there's a lot of ex-players looking to get back into it, and yeah, I'm okay with that."

Roy Keane first went into management back in 2006 when he became the manager of Sunderland. Keane earned promotion with The Black Cats in his first season in charge, before guiding them to safety from relegation in his second season.

Keane left the club in December 2008, with Sunderland sitting in 18th position in the Premier League. Keane's last job as a manager was with Ipswich in 2011. Since then, the Corkman has had spells as an assistant manager at Aston Villa, Nottingham Forrest and The Republic of Ireland.

If hired, Keane will replace Shaun Maloney, who lasted only four months at Easter Road before being dismissed.
