An experimental glioblastoma vaccine that originated at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York, did not meet its main goal in a mid-stage trial. Across 233 patients, those who received SurVaxM had a median overall survival of 22.8 months versus 20.3 months with placebo, a gap that fell short of statistical significance, according to results announced Oct. 7 by Roswell Park and the vaccine's developer, MimiVax.
In a prespecified group of patients 65 and younger, the vaccine was linked to a median survival of 24.2 months versus 20.2 months, a difference that was statistically significant. These results come from a press release, have not been peer-reviewed, and do not make the vaccine available. SurVaxM remains investigational and is not approved by the FDA.
