Rory McIlroy speaks out on Ryder Cup team-mate Jon Rahm’s dispute with DP World Tour

  • Rory McIlroy expressed disappointment over Jon Rahm's rejection of a "generous" deal from the DP World Tour, which would have secured his Ryder Cup eligibility.
  • The deal required LIV players to pay outstanding fines, drop appeals and commit to playing additional tour events, with eight out of nine players accepting.
  • Rahm refused the offer, calling it "extortion”, and is continuing to appeal reported fines exceeding £2 million.
  • Should Rahm lose his appeal and not pay the fines, his DP World Tour membership and, consequently, his ability to participate in the Ryder Cup would be jeopardised.
  • McIlroy emphasised that the Ryder Cup transcends individual players, stating that membership of the DP World Tour and adherence to its rules are prerequisites for participation.
