Rory McIlroy charges up Phoenix leaderboard as Tom McKibbin looks for DP World Tour win

Rory McIlroy has surged up the Waste Management Phoenix Open leaderboard as he looks to hold on to his world number One spot.

McIlroy climbed back to the summit of the world rankings last year but both Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm have chances to regain the top spot with wins this week.

But McIlroy will need to finish in the top three at the very least to keep him at the top of the rankings.

McIlroy laboured to an over par finish in the first round but fired up the leaderboard on Friday.

He was five under par for Saturday and currently sits in a tie for 18th but play has been suspended and he still has five holes to play.

McIlroy hit three birdies in a row on holes two, three and four and followed it up for a birdie on six.

And he birdied on 12 and will tee of on the 14th with a hope to rise up the leaderboard.

Sitting at three under par, McIlroy is some five shots adrift of Jon Rahm in second place and seven shots behind Scottie Scheffler.

Fellow Northern Ireland golfer Tom McKibbin is looking to get in the winners circle in Singapore.

The Holywood golf club product has been tipped as Ireland's next big thing and is currently just two shots off the lead going into the final day of the Singapore Classic.

McKibbin was the leader after round one with a blistering eight under par opening round.

He was not able to match the pace of leaders Wang Jeung-hun and Alejandro Del Rey who both shot six under par in the third round.

And McKibbin is two shots off the lead after a solid one under par round.

But he will be hoping for a big finish on Sunday that could fire him up the world rankings.

McKibbin currently sits 308th in the world and a win could see him sky rocket his career.
