'Ronaldo-esque' Jota makes Celtic title certainties and can help them storm Champions League - Hotline

Celtic were showing off their circus skills as acrobats Moritz Jenz and Giorgos Giakoumakis netted a couple of sensational scissor kicks at Rugby Park. But they weren’t the only one head over heels as the Hoops faithful love bombed the Hotline after seeing their team cut Killie to ribbons.

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, was straight on the blower as the full-time whistle blew to say: “That was a five-star performance from Celtic. The reason Celtic will retain the title is we have two players competing for the same position as the mixture of goalscorers showed. We’ve also got the only world-class player in the SPFL in Jota and with his Ronaldo-esque strikes we have every chance of progression in our Champions League group section.”

William Hutchison, Aberdeen, said: “It's going to be close who will win goal of the season as Jota has close competition … with himself! That's two spectacular strikes from the Portuguese and we’re only three weeks into the campaign. Keep them coming!”

It’s early days but Killie fan Jim McClean, Rothesay, is already fearing the worst, emailing in: “What a shambles of a defence we have and the quicker Zach Hemmings is back in goal the better as Sam Walker is hopeless. We are already relegation candidates after three games. Lose next week at Ross County and we’ll be rock bottom of the league - and I think we'll find it hard to get off it!”

Tom Paterson added: “Not surprised at the score - I predicted a 4-0 defeat myself. As a Killie fan I am quite pleased at Derek McInnes's signings so far APART from one position. We BADLY need a midfield playmaker - we have the defensive ball winners in there but goals win matches and we should try to get Scott Allen in that position ASAP. Games against the Old Firm will not define our season - but beating teams around us will and we need more ammo for that.”

Ange Postecoglou blasted plastic pitches before it side ripped it up on Killie’s astro. But Alan McPherson reckons we’ve missed out chance to bin the artificial surfaces, saying: “So Postecoglou thinks that plastic pitches have no place in the Premiership. As a non-Old Firm fan I totally agree with him but the opportunity to get rid of them last season when Livingston’s disgraceful pitch was the only one in the top flight has been lost. There was the 11-1 majority required to do so but with Kilmarnock now back this season we are stuck with these monstrosities.”

The Celtic support weren’t the only fans in Glasgow pleased with what they saw this weekend. Alan McGaw said: “Brilliant result from Rangers despite St Johnstone parking the bus. Great performance and the confidence levels are soaring as high as a Malik Tillman leap. It was another brilliant header for his goal and it’s good to see Antonio Colak starting to score the goals now. Onto Tuesday now and a different level of football.”

Rangers now turn their attention to PSV tomorrow night but Kevin Lord, Drylaw, isn’t having talk of postponing next weekend’s Easter Road trip to let Gers prepare for the second leg in Eindhoven, He said: “It’s not often Kris Boyd talks sense but he's spot on that it would be ridiculous to postpone the Hibs game scheduled FOUR days before they play in Holland, a one hour flight away!”

Hibs were brought crashing back down from the high of their late derby equaliser as they lost at Livingston and George Fairgrieve said: “A new season but the same old story, Hibs simply cannot defend the high ball into the box a yet another goal is lost to a header. This has been our Achilles heel for years.”

And Dons supporter Derek Hay, Fife, was just as dejected as he rang to say: “New team, same old issue at Aberdeen. Too many soft goals conceded. Until that is addressed, nothing will change. At least we might have a decent striker in Bojan Miovski but defensively there's problems.”
