Ron Hall cast as ITV Love Island's first-ever blind contestant

Love Island has cast its first-ever blind contestant, Ron Hall.

The winter months are heating up as ITV has just revealed this year's love birds heading into the South African villa. Laura Whitmore has passed the torch on to the show's new host, Maya Jama, who will accompany this year's contestants battling it out for the title of king and queen of the villa.

One stand-out cast member is Ron Hall, 25, who heads in as the show's first-ever blind contestant. The financial advisor from Essex suffered a football injury at a young age which left him blind in one eye.

Ron's disability doesn't hinder his day-to-day life and he admitted it's a good conversation starter when it comes to dating. He said: "On meeting me, you’d never know I am blind in one eye. It was the result of a football injury when I was eight; I went in for a header and got kicked in the face.

"I’ve got two different coloured eyes, one blue and one green. It’s added to my character, there are so many people that are worse off than me and if anything, losing something like that makes you realise that. It’s not hindered me in any shape or form. It’s a good conversation starter I must admit."

Love Island airs 9pm Monday, January 16th on ITV2 and ITVX.
