Romelu Lukaku shows frustration after Belgium World Cup exit with violent outburst

Romelu Lukaku was left visibly inconsolable after his Belgium side drew 0-0 with Croatia and were knocked out of the World Cup - and one of the dugouts felt the brunt of the striker's frustrations.

Belgium needed to beat Croatia in their final game to progress from Group F, but failed to find the decisive goal. After a lacklustre first-half in which the red Devils created little, manager Roberto Martinez decided to roll the dice, introducing Lukaku despite the striker playing just 31 minutes of club football since the start of September.

The former Everton man's presence clearly made an impact as his side finally managed to carve out chances. But unfortunately for him, a combination of poor luck and a lack of match sharpness led to the usually clinical finisher wasting a number of gilt-edged chances.

Everton coach lifts lid on youngsters' 'desperate' phone call after Sydney chance

Paul Tait said the Everton starlets who impressed with the first team in Australia were in touch as soon as they landed in the UK so they could plan for the Papa Johns Trophy clash with Mansfield Town.

The Under-21s boss explained the likes of Stan Mills, Isaac Price and Tom Cannon were on the phone to him asking how they could make sure they would be involved in the first knockout round as they continue their efforts to impress within the Everton setup.

Six of the starting line-up on Wednesday night received minutes in the Sydney Super Cup but they showed no sign of complacency as they produced a remarkable late comeback to snatch victory at Goodison Park.
