Two Romanian men have been charged over the stabbing of a journalist outside his London home.
Nandito Badea, 19, and George Stana, 23, are accused of attacking Pouria Zeraati, a reporter for Iran International, as he walked to his car in Wimbledon.
Mr Zeraati, who has spoken publicly about Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps being proscribed as a terrorist organisation in the UK, said one of his attackers pretended to ask for change, before he was manhandled and stabbed in the leg.
The incident happened on March 29, sparking a Metropolitan Police investigation led by the force's Counter Terrorism Command.
On Thursday, the Crown Prosecution Service said two men have now been arrested in Romania and charged.
“Following a review of the evidence provided by the Metropolitan Police Service’s Counter Terrorism Command, we have authorised charges against two Romanian nationals”, said a spokesperson.
“The charges relate to an attack on a journalist in Wimbledon on the afternoon of Friday, 29 March 2024.
“Nandito Badea, 19, and George Stana, 23, were arrested in Romania on Wednesday, 4 December 2024. They are each charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and wounding.
“They have both now appeared in a Romanian court for the start of extradition proceedings.
“We continue to work closely with Romanian authorities, to ensure that our extradition request is progressed through the courts.”
If extradition is granted, Badea and Stana will be brought to the UK to face criminal proceedings.
