Turkish cellist Burak Özkan and Portuguese pianist Bernardo Santos will join hands to delight audiences in Bangkok with "The Grand Tango & Romantic Masterpieces", which will take place at Sala Sudasiri Sobha, Lat Phrao 41 yaek 7-2, on Sunday at 4pm.
Presented by Olive Music in partnership with the Portuguese embassy and the Camões Institute, the collaborative concert features a programme that is built around a diverse repertoire that moves from the structural rigour of the Romantic era to the rhythmic complexities of contemporary Latin American tango.
The recital begins with Mendelssohn's Cello And Piano Sonata No.2 In G Minor, followed by works from Portuguese composers Joly Braga Santos and Anne Victorino d'Almeida.
The programme then shifts focus to the lyrical melodies of Sergei Rachmaninoff, featuring Vocalise and Zdes' Khorosho, before moving into the rhythmic drive of Dvorak's Slavonic Dance Op 72, No.2. The evening will conclude with the intense, syncopated energy of Astor Piazzolla's Le Grand Tango.
This performance marks another chapter in a five-year partnership between Özkan and Santos, a duo that has toured extensively across Europe.
Özkan is known for his versatile approach to both orchestral and chamber music. Currently serving as the principal cellist of the Orquestra Clássica de Espinho, he has also held leadership positions with the Muğla Symphony Orchestra and the Orquestra Filarmónica Portuguesa.
Meanwhile, Santos' career is marked by both high-profile solo work and significant academic research. Beyond the concert hall, he is a dedicated researcher responsible for the critical editions and publication of works by Portuguese composers Berta Alves de Sousa and Frederico de Freitas.
Tickets cost 500, 1,000, 1,800 and 2,500 baht and can be purchased from salasudasirisobha.com.
