Benfica head coach Roger Schmidt has not ruled out the possibility of Enzo Fernandez leaving the club for Chelsea before the transfer window closes tomorrow (Tuesday) evening.
Chelsea remain hopeful of rounding off what has been a lavish January with the signing of the Argentine World Cup winner. Talks were held over the weekend between the two clubs and continued this morning. It's understood the Blues are willing to pay a guaranteed – and a club-record – £105million to secure Fernandez's signing, although the fee would be spread out over instalments.
That remains the sticking point with Benfica, who have thus far insisted the £105million release clause in the midfielder's contract must be triggered and paid in full. And that stance was reiterated by Schmidt when he faced the media this afternoon.
