When the 2027 NASCAR schedule was released, it carried some tough news for Rockingham Speedway.
The Rock, which had hosted both the NASCAR O'Reilly and Truck Series in each of the past two seasons, will not be home to either series next year.
It was the latest blow to what has been a rocky few years for Rockingham Speedway, and it sounds like the track could be changing hands some time soon. The IHRA currently owns Rockingham, and has been going through some financial instability.
Speaking with SiriusXM's NASCAR Radio, Track Enterprises president Bob Sargent said he had already had conversations about possibly taking ownership of the track if the opportunity arises, and based on those talks he believes change could be coming sooner rather than later.
"I think something will be done in the next 30 to 60 days as far as the property itself," Sargent said. "That’s just my opinion, but from everybody that I speak to in his group, and him, I think that there is an urgency to get this done. When that happens and it does become stable there, I think you’ll see some other movement pretty quickly. At least that would be my business model."
Sargent jokingly added that he hoped he would be the only bidder, and that Track Enterprises was ready to get to work if they had the chance to take ownership.
"We’ve got a lot of ideas. We’ve got people in place. We are prepared to move forward quickly as we can."

Rockingham featured an incredible finish to its Truck Series race this year, with Corey Heim holding off teammate Kaden Honeycutt in the final laps.
While it won't be hosting NASCAR in 2027, the track revitalization that North Wilkesboro has been through over recent years suggests that a comeback for The Rock could still be in the cards in the near future.
That said, this isn't the first time Rockingham has fallen out of the NASCAR rotation, having been dropped from the Cup Series schedule in 2004 and briefly hosting the Truck Series for two years in the mid-2010s. Given that recent history, it's fair to wonder if a comeback will be able to stick.
