Roberto Firmino left 'blown away' at Anfield as Jurgen Klopp reveals what referee said about Liverpool decision

Your morning Liverpool digest on Sunday, May 21.

Roberto Firmino left 'blown away' by what he spotted on the streets of Anfield before Liverpool match

Jurgen Klopp has revealed Roberto Firmino’s reaction to his new mural after the Brazilian scored a last-minute equaliser against Aston Villa in his final appearance at Anfield.

The forward will leave Liverpool at the end of his contract this summer, along with James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

And Klopp admitted it was an emotional day as he paid tribute to the Reds’ departing players, while also sending a warning to his future transfer signings.

“Definitely (emotional), definitely,” he told reporters when asked how he was feeling. “Bobby’s kids, I’m not sure, maybe the eldest one is older than seven? Probably? That means I know them all since they were babies. That is kind of the same for Milly.

“The two boys who came on obviously showed today immediately what we will miss. It is Milly’s mentality. I don’t want to underestimate his football, because he played really good football here, and today again."

Jurgen Klopp reveals what referee told him about disallowed goal as Liverpool boss questions Tyrone Mings decision

Jurgen Klopp has admitted he didn’t agree with referee John Brooks’ decision to disallow Cody Gakpo’s goal in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

The Reds were trailing when the forward had appeared to equalise, tapping home after Ibrahima Konate’s shot from Virgil van Dijk’s cutback had been blocked on the line. However, the Dutch defender had been in an offside position when the ball fell to him via a Villa defender.

Speaking to reporters after the final whistle, Klopp revealed he had spoken to Brooks, who disallowed the goal after viewing the VAR monitors, about his decision as he shared the official’s explanation for ruling Gakpo’s strike out.

“I asked the ref why the offside goal was offside, because offside situations should be clear but he explained it to me,” Klopp said. “He said it was a subjective decision."
