Robert Saleh on Why the Jets Haven’t Benched Zach Wilson: ‘I'm Going to Plead the Fifth’

Jets head coach Robert Saleh, while appearing on The Michael Kay Show on Tuesday, shockingly opted to "plead the fifth" when asked why the team is not benching struggling quarterback Zach Wilson.

Saleh was pressed by Kay during his weekly ESPN New York radio appearance as to why the team is refusing to give veteran Trevor Siemian a shot under center.

"I don’t know… you got me. I’m going to plead the fifth on all this one," said Saleh.

New York's coach, who boasts a disappointing 15–27 (.357) record in three seasons at the helm, appeared stressed in attempting to defend his rationale.

"They are valid questions... I’ve gotta look at it from a global standpoint and just see where we are and look at the All-22 best I can and make the decision best as possible," added Saleh.

Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, has compiled a 11-18 record as the Jets starter. In 30 career games, Wilson has only completed 56.6 percent of his passes for 5,622 yards with 20 touchdowns with 23 interceptions.

After a dismal performance on Monday night against the Chargers, Wilson and the Jets will look to rebound in Week 10 when they head to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders at Allegiant Stadium on Nov. 12, at 8:20 p.m. ET.
