Robbie Savage offers hilarious response as Cristiano Ronaldo gives son advice

Robbie Savage gave a cheeky response to his son training alongside Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Man United ’s final game of the season.

The Red Devils round-off their campaign against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday and will be hoping to secure a sixth-placed finish - and a Europa League place in the process. United boss Ralf Rangnick could be set to hand a few youngsters an opportunity to impress at the weekend.

Savage’s son Charlie is among those to have been taking part in the club’s pre-match preparations, whilst the likes of Alvaro Fernandez, Hannibal Mejbri and Teden Mengi could all be in-line to make an appearance against Palace.

Savage in particular though appeared to be handed valuable words of wisdom ahead of the match having shared an image of him alongside Cristiano Ronaldo on his Twitter account, alongside the caption: “Always learning.”

Dad, Robbie, appeared to poke fun at the images though having played against the Portuguese superstar earlier in his career. Quoting the video of the pair in an effort to caption Ronaldo’s words to his son and poke fun at his infamous style of play, he wrote: “your dad used to kick me”.

Savage junior is a midfielder like his Dad but unlike Robbie has already been handed the opportunity to make an appearance for the Red Devils. Having started his career at Old Trafford, the latter was never given a chance to play for the club before moving to Crewe Alexandra.

He then went on to play for the likes of Leicester City, Birmingham City, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers, whilst also accumulating 39 appearances for the Welsh national side. Meanwhile, son Charlie was handed his debut in a brief cameo against United’s 1-1 draw with Swiss outfit Young Boys in the Champions League group stages.

Ahead of his debut for the club, Robbie was overcome with emotion at the achievement. Speaking to BT Sport back in December, he said: "I’m starting to tear up actually, because what the boy has achieved. Charlie Savage has achieved so much in his young life.

"He’s never been top of his group, he's always had to meet targets, every two years when he was on the borderline, was he going to get kept on? But his application, his work ethic, his desire, he's humble - that has got him to where he's got. At times I think it has been harder for him.

"When I'm stood on the sidelines people automatically think Charlie is going to be like his dad. He's not like me, he's his own player. I am absolutely delighted. My father, who’s sadly not with us, would be so proud looking down on his grandson, as proud as I am. It's amazing what the boy has achieved.”
