Robbie Neilson targets further Hearts transfer as he makes 'strongest' team admission

Robbie Neilson has admitted his current Hearts squad is the strongest he's worked with as he vowed to get even better.

The Jambos boss believes the club should come out of the transfer window stronger and with the additions of Garang Kuol, James Hill and Yutaro Oda, they are well on course for that to become a reality. The Gorgie side are hopeful they will bring in one further addition who will improve the team with the gaffer making no secrets over his desire to bring back Callum Paterson to the club from Sheffield Wednesday.

Over the years the likes of Lawrence Shankland, Barrie McKay, Stephen Kingsley and Robert Snodgrass have arrived while gems like Alex Cochrane, Kye Rowles and Cammy Devlin have all been unearthed and brought to the capital. Hearts are flying high in third spot with a healthy advantage over the chasing pack as they bid to finish behind Celtic and Rangers while they are in the Scottish Cup last 16 after victory over rivals Hibs last time out.

Speaking to Edinburgh Evening News, Neilson said: "We had a strong squad when I was here previously but probably, yes. To be honest, it should be. Every year we should be getting stronger.

"We should come out of this transfer window stronger and I think we will because we've brought in Kuol, Oda and Hill.

“Hopefully there will be another one and that will improve the team because we should be better every year. There is one we are trying to get but it's been quiet at the moment. We just need to keep looking and try to get something done.”

He continued: “You see on Sunday with the subs that came on. Stephen Kingsley is an international player, as is Natty Atkinson.

"Stephen Humphrys, Jorge Grant and Alan Forrest are top players. We are sitting with Garang Kuol – another international – and Yutaro Oda on the bench along with Orestis Kiomourtzoglou.

"If we have an issue or need to make a change, we aren't bringing the level down. We’re actually bringing it up.”
