Robb: Physical prep for IndyCar is rookie's toughest task

Aside from IndyCar’s five days of open testing – last week’s two days at Thermal Club, two days at Indy in April, and one day on the eve of the race weekend in the season finale at Laguna Seca – the teams are permitted just two other test days. One of these must be preseason, the other is in-season, and teams who run an Indy NXT [née, Indy Lights] team get an additional day in-season. Coyne, through its partnership with HMD Motorsports, is one of those teams, along with Andretti Autosport and Juncos Hollinger Racing.

Robb’s preseason team test day has already been used in cementing his ride in the Coyne-with Rick Ware Racing #51 car, and the 2022 Indy NXT runner-up says while he has worked hard on his fitness at PitFit, there is no substitute for being car-fit. He pointed out that a driver’s fitness must be so natural in order to allow 100 percent of his focus to be on all the other aspects of racing.
