Floodwaters have poured over a wall in Neath forcing police to close the A474 for the "foreseeable future".

According to witnesses in Neath, a culvert by Castle Bingo in the Melyn area of Neath has burst. Floodwaters have cascaded down the road to completely inundate roads between the bingo hall and an Esso garage on Mile End Row.

South Wales Police has said it's dealing with the incident and is asking people to avoid the area. In a statement issued on Thursday evening the force said: "Please avoid the area of the A474 Neath, Castle Bingo to the Esso garage on Mile End Row and the Melyn area as the road is completely flooded and emergency services are in the area dealing with the incident.

"It is expected to remain closed for the foreseeable future."

It comes after heavy rains have battered parts of Wales in the last 24 hours causing businesses to be flooded and roads to be closed. More than 20 flood warnings and alerts were issued by Natural Resources Wales on Wednesday afternoon and evening as river levels rose quickly.
