'Not an isolated event': department learns fate after child's traumatic burning

"The risk was foreseeable", a magistrate has found after a nine-year-old girl suffered second-degree burns when alcohol-based hand sanitiser ignited as she touched a plasma globe at Questacon.

The Department of Industry, Science and Resources, which oversees the science centre, was fined $140,000 in the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 24.
