'Rishi Sunak's enormous wealth is a chasm between him and the rest of us'

Rishi Sunak, the richest Prime Minister in modern history, seems to think laws apply to commoners only.

The Commons inquiry into whether the Tory leader should have flagged his wife’s stake in a childcare business before the Chancellor gave the sector £4billion in last month’s Budget once again illustrates this point well.

It also illuminates the extraordinary wealth of a PM richer than 99.99% of the electorate.

That affluence is a chasm between Sunak and the rest of us, and may partly explain why he repeatedly breaks the rules.

First there was the Covid Partygate fine, then a fine for not wearing a seat belt, then the police having to warn the family to put a lead on their pet dog in a London park.

All this may make him look more like Mr Bean than Kenneth Noye but it’s about time he started behaving properly nonetheless.

True dignity

Neville Lawrence displays great dignity in preparing to face his son’s murderers

He is of course right to demand that Gary Dobson and David Norris stay in prison unless the convicted killers confess to being part of the gang that killed Stephen in 1993.

It would be an outrage if Norris were let out when his minimum term is up this time next year, while he still denies his heinous crime.

Likewise with Dobson, the year after.

In the eyes of many, the only two members of that racist gang of killers ever brought to justice will never deserve to be freed.

Let’s all get behind Neville’s cause.

Crucial quiche

This is a huge, historic opportunity for royal head chef Mark Flanagan.

The quiche he has created, the first royal recipe since 1953, he has the chance to join coronation chicken as a mainstay of British cuisine for decades to come.

With spinach, broad beans and tarragon, it may not be to everyone’s taste. But only time will tell whether it will rise to the top tier of culinary treats – or sink to the soggy bottom.
