Rishi Sunak left red-faced after embarrassing Euros blunder

RISHI Sunak was left red-faced after an embarrassing football blunder while he was visiting a brewery in Wales.

The Prime Minister asked a group of workers if “they were looking forward to all the football” – the bewildered group were quick to point out that Wales had not qualified for the Euros.

Trying to make light of the mortifying gaffe Sunak then proceeded to say “get people in, get people in” while nervously laughing as the group of staff at the brewery erupted into laughter.

One of the people sitting next to the Tory leader replied: “Na, that’s just because you’re in it.”

Sunak, who was visually embarrassed, repeated, “well, well, get people out” as he tried to argue his point that the Euros were a potential source of revenue for the industry in Wales.

Red-faced Sunak ended the awkward exchange by saying “summer of sport” as he tried to rally support from the potential Welsh voters who were sitting around him looking down at the table while the Prime Minister laughed nervously to himself.

Wales failed to qualify for this summer's Euros competition as they lost in the play-off final to Poland in a heartbreaking penalty shoot-out.

Scotland and England will be at the tournament in Germany this summer which kicks off June 14.

Sunak was visiting a brewery in Barry, Wales, as he kicked off his election campaign after he announced a General Election for July 4 the day before, May 22.

The Prime Minister will be in Nigg, Scotland, later today, May 23, as part of his campaign.
