Rise and Fall viewers divided over brutal task which sees contestants electrocuted

Brand new Channel 4 reality game show Rise and Fall landed on TVs tonight and many viewers were hooked after the very first 'brutal' episode.

With the same producers as The Traitors, the show which is hosted by Greg James, sees 16 ordinary people enter and be placed either in a position of power as a Ruler or as a powerless Grafter in a bid to take home £100,000.

Those without power in the game will have the chance to rise up through the ranks and win a cash prize. Rise and Fall is set to make contestants work hard to get to the top.

Greg joined the contestants and explained the aim of the game and the Rulers were quickly decided at the start of the episode.

Scots delivery driver Sydney found herself in the Grafters team who had to sleep in the grubby basement whilst the 6 Rulers lived it up in a swanky penthouse.

However, it wasn't long before the Rulers put the Grafters to the test and sent them to work three shifts as 'electricians' on the trot, where they received electric shocks whilst holding wires above their heads but managed to secure some money into the prize pot.

However, after a tough first day, Grafter Ali decided he had had enough and went home, saying he didn't like not being in charge, leaving the grafters down to 8.

The Rulers decided to reward all of the Grafters to show 'compassion'.

But the drama didn't end there and at the end of the episode the Rulers had to vote for who they thought should leave the process which saw tensions rise in the red room - as the Grafters watched in the basement through a screen.

The episode was left on a cliffhanger as Matt's vote wasn't revealed and viewers have to tune in tomorrow to find out who gets the boot.

Following the nail-biting first episode, which was an hour and fifteen minutes long, many fans took to Twitter to talk about it with a real mixed bag of opinions.

One wrote: "Rise And Fall on Channel 4 seems fun so far. Looking forward to Traitors style twists and turns!!!@Channel4."

Another added: "Omg #riseandfall is my new show this is good!"

While one said: "This task isn't making interesting TV. #RiseAndFall."

Another penned: "#riseandfall not enjoying this at all. Anyone else? Switching off now."

While one commented: "This is like Big Brother, Love Island, The Traitors and Crystal Maze all cobbled into one, it’s like a game show mash up, fully expecting a dartboard and speedboat prizes next task #RiseAndFall."

Another said: "This show is... not great #riseandfall."

While one added: "This #riseandfall show on @Channel4 is a clever concept and very good execution.."

Another penned: "Yes I really love Rise and fall already #riseandfall."

Rise and Fall continues tomorrow night at 10pm on Channel 4.
