A woman says she is "worried about leaving her house" after her Ring doorbell recorded footage in which a person appeared to steal a parcel from her doorstep. Victoria Morris lives with her assistance dog Mollie and had just come back from the hospital when it happened.
The 31-year-old, who has now reported the incident to police, watched it taking place on her doorbell camera. Victoria has adrenal insufficiency and had just come back from hospital on Monday having been on an IV drip for two days.
She then took Mollie out for a walk on Tuesday when she noticed a notification on her phone. The app told Victoria that a delivery driver was at her front door via her Ring Doorbell, reports LancsLive.
As she opened up the app to see if the driver needed a response, she didn't think twice when she saw that he left the package at her door and got back into the van. For her, this was 'normal' and 'fine' but seconds later, before she closed down the app, she spotted a woman stop to swipe the package right off of her doorstep.
"I was actually still on the Ring app, which is why I saw it was taken," She said. "I was really surprised that someone would do that in broad day light knowing how many people have Ring cameras now.
She didn't even look to see if there was a camera. I was really upset that somebody could do that especially if it hadn't even been that long. I think it'll put me off ordering things for delivery now unless I leave it with a neighbour, but the trouble is I don't really know my neighbours."
The footage shows what appears to be a group of three people walking past Victoria's house in Burnley. One of the three appears to bend down and pick up the package, before dashing away.
Victoria says her parcel itself would have been of no use to the people who took it. For her, it included vital reflective gear for her dog, something that helps her and Mollie stay safe whilst out and about.
"I'm just disappointed that somebody would do that, it's not like it would be of any use to them either," She added. "it's equipment for my assistance dog , it was so she'd be seen when we're out in the dark."
To make matters worse, Victoria says when she reported the incident to Amazon they agreed to refund her the amount of money she spent but that she would have to re-order the vital items stolen. Only, the reflective gear has now more than doubled in price to nearly £50, as there is only one left in stock.
The 31-year-old can no longer afford to buy the exact same reflective harness which she say was the one she liked the best as few include leg straps too. She said: "It's just really frustrating because now I've got to find other reflective gear for her- it's quite important to me it make it helps make sure cars can see her so she doesn't get run over."
Lancashire Constabulary confirmed the incident is being looked into to. A spokesperson for the force said: "This has been reported to us and we are investigating it."
