Ring doorbell captures scary prowler armed with hammer lurking outside home

A dad caught a prowler armed with a hammer and crowbar lurking outside his home on CCTV.

The hooded figure was filmed on the occupant's Ring doorbell as he frighteningly looked through windows and tried to break in.

David Welsh, of Garrowhill, Glasgow, was fast asleep upstairs at the time of the incident in the early hours of Wednesday, reports the Daily Record.

The 64-year-old was made aware of the man by his son, who received a notification on his phone through the app and alerted his unsuspecting dad.

In the disturbing footage, the man fails to gain entry and then turns and heads back down the driveway.

David said he fears what would have happened if the man had got inside his home and gets chills thinking about someone lurking outside his house or those of his neighbours.

He explained: "I was upstairs fast asleep and didn't even know anything about it until my son had got in touch.

"He has the Ring CCTV app on his phone and he got a notification when the sensors picked this guy up approaching the house.

"He hangs around for a wee bit at the front door.

"He's holding a hammer in one hand and a crowbar in the other. What was he going to do with them?

"We slept right through it but my fear is wondering what would have happened had he got inside."

David added: "Thankfully, nothing seems to have been taken but it is just the thought of someone lurking around outside my home.

"I don't want him to be trying anyone else's house next."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8pm on Wednesday, May 4, officers received a report of a man having been seen acting suspiciously on Rosedale Drive, Glasgow, around 2am that morning.

"Enquiries were carried out and no criminality was established, however advice and guidance was provided.”
