There continues to be no shortage of drama at the opposite end of Brian Clough Way as Nottingham Forest’s arch-rivals remain deep in crisis.
Derby County have been in administration since last September and have been docked 21 points for breaching financial rules.
Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley is said to have been in talks over buying the Rams for several months, but the Telegraph report plans to announce him as the preferred bidder collapsed.
He is said to still remain keen on a £50m takeover, but the English Football League yesterday issued a statement saying they are “deeply concerned at the lack of any form of substantial progress in respect of the outstanding matters affecting the club”.
Amid all the goings-on, and with their bitter rivals also facing the threat of relegation as they currently languish eight points from safety, Reds supporters have had plenty to say on social media.
@Trents88: The EFL monthly board meeting today. No doubt number one on their evil agenda is creating more ways they can be unfair to #dcfc #nffc
@RedDogRoberts: What’s greater? The number of days since Derby beat Forest, or the number of other people/organisations Derby have blamed for their mess so far? #nffc
@Jack_hammer84: Personally think we should have a minutes silence when derby die #nffc #dcfc
@memototurner: Well well Chelsea up for sale and Derby as well. I bet Mike Ashley and Fawaz are licking their lips at the chance of a quick 2 for the price of 1. #nffc
@King10Kyle: I don’t understand why so many @NFFC fans want @dcfcofficial to go down.. yes we hate each other. But what would we have too look forward to next season? #nffc #nffcfamily #COYR
@TheReds1865: Who in the right frame of mind is going to want to buy a club with £80m of debt, that don’t own their ground & are going into the 3rd tier very very soon #nffc #dcfc
@kennethfield: What's the point of a deadline (one already extended) if it's allowed to pass without consequence. Riding roughshod over the @EFL, other teams, and their own supporters is how #dcfc got in this mess. And it still continues. Throw them out of the league now #NFFC
@PaulWalford9: If I were @buryfcofficial I would be very annoyed at the EFL for the amount of chances and extensions it’s given Derby. When it was them they were expelled without a 2nd thought. #NFFC #DCFC
