Richard Madeley was blasted over what viewers dubbed a "patronising" remark to a Labour MP on Good Morning Britain today.
The 65-year-old presenter and co-host Kate Garraway were joined by Shadow Culture Secretary Lucy Powell as she discussed why the UK hadn't enforced tougher sanctions against Russia yet.
She suggested that sanctions could indeed go further and that Labour is calling to close loopholes for Russians based in this country to get around.
As the interview came to a close, Richard asked her whether she would be watching the UN's security council discussion on potential war crimes in Bucha at 5pm.
"If I can juggle that around making my children's tea and all my various childcare demands, I will," she replied.
Richard responded: "There speaks a working woman! Thanks very much indeed."
But viewers were not impressed and took to Twitter to comment.
One tweeted: "'There speaks a working woman' - don't think @richardm56 realises how patronising he comes across sometimes. #gmb."
While another commented: "'there speaks a working woman' nothing patronising there richard #gmb."
A third fumed: "#gmb Madeley: 'there speaks a working woman' followed by self-congratulatory smile because he doesn’t even realise he’s been so patronising."
It comes after Richard was criticised yesterday after asking why rape is a weapon of war in Ukraine.
Kate and Richard were joined by Chip Chapman, Former Senior British Adviser to US central command, who gave his analysis on the situation.
After discussing the heartbreaking testimony uncovered by human rights groups, Richard had asked: "Chip, we've said something that was widely reported this morning that rape was used as a weapon of war. How exactly is rape a weapon of war?"
In response, Chip said: "Well, it's just trying to impose some sort of will upon the enemy as it's mentioned in the Second World War, it's absolutely horrific. And if you've got compromised morality [...] with those with weapons you've got a lethal combination for the future. It's absolutely disgraceful and people need to be taken to account."
Yet viewers were not happy with Richard's question, with one writing: "Richard Madeley on #gmb has just asked, 'How exactly is rape a weapon of war?' ?????!!!!!!!"
While another commented: "Madeley, 'how is rape a weapon of war?' What a d***!!! #GMB."
