Richard Keys questions Premier League decision ahead of Man City vs Liverpool

Richard Keys has questioned the decision to appoint Anthony Taylor and Paul Tierney as the match officials for Liverpool's Premier League game against Manchester City.

The announcement was made on Tuesday that Taylor and Tierney, both from Greater Manchester, will take charge of the highly anticipated clash at the Etihad on Sunday. It is shaping up to be a title decider as just one point currently separates the two sides.

Tierney, who will take charge of VAR against City, has previously come under fire from Liverpool fans and manager Jurgen Klopp for two controversial decisions in their 2-2 draw against Tottenham back in December.

Liverpool supporters have already criticised the decision to appoint them for Sunday's meeting with Pep Guardiola's side and now Keys has also weighed in on the matter.

He wrote on Twitter: "I hope it passes off without a problem but why do PGMOL insist on creating the potential for an issue?

"No Liverpool fan is going to be comfortable about Anthony Taylor (referee) & Paul Tierney (VAR) - both from Greater Manchester - being appointed to Etihad at the weekend. Why?"

At the full time whistle against Spurs back in December, Klopp clashed with Tierney and was pictured saying: "I don’t have a problem with referees, only you.”

The Liverpool boss later spoke about the Diogo Jota incident as he told Sky Sports post-match: “It is always helpful when you play football yourself. When you see the situation back, the VAR is there. Why is he stopping? I don’t understand.

"The draw is fine. We are not crazy enough to think we cannot draw at Tottenham but these situations are crucial. I have no idea what his [referee Paul Tierney] problem is with me."
