Richard Gere has been rushed to hospital after falling ill and developing pneumonia while on a celebratory trip to Mexico.
The 73-year-old Hollywood legend has been holidaying near Nuevo Vallarta to celebrate wife Alejandra Silva’s 40th birthday.
But celebrations took a turn when the An Officer and a Gentleman star fell ill and needed to be rushed to hospital to seek medical help.
Fortunately, Richard is expected to make a recovery - despite reports saying he developed pneumonia; a bacterial infection which causes the lungs to swell - and his wife hinted they are happily continuing their holiday in the sunshine with their young family.
TMZ reports: "Richard Gere is recovering in Mexico this weekend after he caught a case of pneumonia while vacationing with his family - but the good news is he's gonna be alright.”
Its report continued: “The actor is down near Nuevo Vallarta this week - where he's celebrating the 40th birthday of his wife, Alejandra Silva, with their kids.
"Before the trip, Richard developed a bad cough and it continued while he was there.
"It got so bad, he had to check himself into a hospital where we're told he was diagnosed with pneumonia and treated in an overnight stay."
Its report said the star was given antibiotics and is said to be recovering well.
Richard and Alejandra have been married since 2018 and they have a son named Alexander, who was born in 2019 and a second son who was born in April 2020.
Richard has an older son named Homer, 23, who he shares with ex-wife model and actress Carey Lowell, who he was married to from 2002 until 2016.
Alejandra, who was born in Spain’s northwest region of Galicia, has a seven-year-old son called Albert with her ex, Govind Friedland.
Richard previously told Spanish magazine Hola! after the couple’s wedding: “I’m the happiest man in the universe and how couldn’t I be! I’m married to a beautiful, sensitive, funny woman who’s committed to helping people and is a great mother.”
Alejandra has been sharing posts and updates from her Mexico holiday with Richard and their family.
