Richard Avedon’s groundbreaking portraits are as visually arresting and conceptually fascinating now as they were on their debut four decades ago.
In fact, some of the works on display at Gagosian in London have not been seen by the public since his original exhibition, In The American West, opened at the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1985. The 21 works in this new show have been curated by his granddaughter, Caroline. She chose them from the 126 final images that Avedon himself selected from more than a thousand sittings.
