Harry Newman will be given every chance to prove his fitness before Leeds Rhinos' opening Super League clash with Warrington Wolves.
The centre suffered a hamstring injury in the pre-season victory over Hull FC which could see him miss the Channel 4 clash against the Wire.
Newman is currently rated as doubtful as a result, with coach Richard Agar saying a decision will be made days before the clash.
"Given the nature of the injury it's literally a day by day thing," he said.
"He's a low-grade hamstring and given the proximity of when he did it in closeness to round one, he'll be touch and go.
"Hamstrings aren't something you want to mess around with but what I'll say for Harry is he'll give himself every chance. There'll be no box he doesn't tick through rehab or personally. I use the time when he broke his leg as an example, he was the first bloke in the building in the morning and we had to kick him out of the building at night, such was the commitment he had to getting himself right.
"If you know Harry personally and what makes him tick, he'll be desperate to make the game, but we'll know a little bit more this week.
"Our sessions are Wednesday and Thursday next week and we'll know in one of them."
Other than Tom Holroyd, Agar currently has a fully fit squad to select with.
