Murder She Wrote super-fan Tim Benzie returned to Nottingham for the fifth time to host another interactive screening of the American crime series. Usually when I go to the theatre it's to see a live performance, but I was pleasantly surprised at how creatively Tim combined what can only be described as a cinematic, theatrical and hilarious experience as the packed theatre worked together to solve the crime.
Audience members watched Jessica Fletcher get caught up in another murder mystery inside a women's prison, but this was no ordinary viewing. The audience worked with Tim to spot all of the celebrity guest stars, and with his advanced expertise on the show, and some help from a very knowledgeable fan near the front row, ranked the cast in order of celebrity status on the fameoter.
This later transformed into a suspiciometer, with fans raising their signs when something seemed odd. The whole night was full of witty comments, quick costume changes by Tim, and at one point confetti as the whole audience set off party poppers once Jessica cracked the case.
Before the night I had never seen an episode of Murder She Wrote before, unlike some dedicated fans who had even dressed up. However, this really was an evening everyone could enjoy, as long as you don't mind live commentary, have a sense of humour and love murder mysteries.
Tim also worked a raffle into the night as well as a Cabot Cove quiz, so many guests went home with prizes. If that all wasn't enough there was even a sing song at the end, truly making it an experience like no other and one I look forward to having again when he hopefully returns to Nottingham next year.
