Review: Hilarious and jam-packed with incredible musical numbers Bugsy Malone has come to Cardiff

Bugsy Malone has come to town bringing New York accents, impressive props, outstanding singing, and incredible musical numbers to the Wales Millenium Centre. Kicking off on opening night the theatre was packed with audiences ready to enjoy the show and they were given a show to enjoy.

An incredible cast of child and adult actors brought to life the 1976 Alan Parker film starring Jodie Foster and Scott Baio, that's since been turned into a musical. The plot follows Fat Sam as he and his gang, with the help of lead character Bugsy Malone, tried to defeat Dandy Dan, who was played by Desmond Cole.

The show is full of humour from the use of whipped cream as bullets for the splurge guns, the same as the original film, to interactions with the audiences to loveable characters. The child actors were amazing, bringing energy and life to their professional and impressive performances.

Fat Sam, played by Albie Snelson, was a standout character, easily wooing the crowd with his charm and breaks of the fourth wall. Blousey Brown, played by Mia Lakha, also had an amazing voice, hitting all her notes perfectly.

The adult cast members were amazing (Wales Millennium Centre)

The adult cast members should be credited too as their musical numbers, Bad Guys and So You Wanna Be A Boxer, were my favourites of the show. Talented choreography, including some very tricky and incredible skipping tricks, paired with the character's strong stage presence really brought these songs to life.

A standing ovation should also be awarded to the props team who transformed the Millenium Centre into 1970s New York, matched with the strong accents of all the actors, that had Fat Sam's Grand Slam Speakeasy, actors in the audience, and the most impressive of all, a 1970s car driven by Bugsy himself, who was played by Gabriel Payne. At the end of the show, the whole audience was on their feet, clapping, singing, and cheering along with the cast having enjoyed a thoroughly good show.

Bugsy Malone is showing in the Wales Millennium Centre until Saturday, January 21.
