The Oxfordshire village of Piddington has voted overwhelmingly in favour of ‘independence’ from the UK in a symbolic vote one resident called the ‘Battle of Britain’.
People living in the village, which is home to around 350 residents, were invited to vote on whether to secede from the UK and become an independent state on Tuesday after the Government announced plans to house 1,256 male asylum seekers at a nearby former military base.
