Resident shares creepy video of man driving up and down Newcastle street taking photos of houses in middle of the night

A concerned resident is warning his neighbours to be vigilant after their CCTV camera captured "strange" footage of a man taking photos of houses on the street in the middle of the night.

A series of videos show a car repeatedly driving up and down Hilden Gardens in Heaton, Newcastle, between 12.45am and 5.45am, with a man inside the car appearing to take photos of properties on the street.

The incident, which took place on Monday, March 7, also showed a man leaving a large white box in the middle of the street.

The worried resident has reported it to Northumbria Police who have confirmed that they are carrying out enquiries.

The man, who did not want to be named, said: "The car was acting very suspicious around Hilden Gardens.

"It drove along the street five times stopping and taking pictures.

"It looked like there were three people in the car and the passenger on the back seat was the one taking photos of my house and other houses on the street.

"He also emptied his boot and left a white box opposite the house.

"It was very strange."

The resident said he checked what was in the box but it was empty and later thrown away.

Police urged anyone involved in the incident to contact the force.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “We are aware of the report and are carrying out enquiries into the alleged suspicious activity.

“Anyone involved is encouraged to make themselves known to police by contacting us via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20220307-0587.”
