Capcom is gradually transforming its RE Engine into an 'AI-generation game engine', the company revealed during its Capcom Open Conference RE: 2026 in Japan on 2 October. Programmer Satoshi Ishida said the REX project will help developers build, test and maintain large-scale games alongside artificial intelligence.
The announcement does not mean Capcom is replacing artists or filling future games with machine-generated assets. The company's stated focus is development efficiency, including programming, quality assurance, performance and internal tools.
