As the final three undecided races in the House of Representatives are being closely watched, the current balance of power shows Republicans holding a narrow majority with 219 seats compared to Democrats' 213.
In recent developments, Democratic incumbent Rep. Marcy Kaptur secured Ohio's 9th Congressional District, while Republican entrepreneur Nick Begich flipped Alaska's at-large district from blue to red by defeating Democratic incumbent Rep. Mary Sattler Peltola.
However, the outcomes of the races in California and Iowa are still pending. In California's 13th Congressional District, Republican Rep. John Duarte is leading over former Democratic state assembly member Adam Gray by a slim margin of 351 votes, with 96% of the votes counted.
Meanwhile, in the 45th District of California, Democratic challenger Derek Tran has taken the lead over Republican incumbent Rep. Michelle Steel by 480 votes, with over 97% of the votes tallied.
Another closely contested race is in Iowa, where Republican incumbent Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks is currently ahead of challenger Christina Bohannan by just over 800 votes, with 99% of the votes counted. A recount has been requested by Bohannan, prompting House Administration Committee election observers to monitor the process.
Miller-Meeks has expressed confidence in her lead and labeled the recount as a waste of taxpayer money. Despite her declaration of victory, The Associated Press has refrained from calling the race due to the potential for a recount.
With the final outcomes of these races yet to be determined, the balance of power in the House of Representatives remains in a delicate state, with both parties closely monitoring the results.
