The Tennessee Titans revealed their initial 53-man roster for the 2022 season, but the team is already set to do some shuffling and it involves wide receiver Racey McMath, who made the cut.
According to Terry McCormick of Titan Insider, Tennessee is set to place the 2021 sixth-round pick on injured reserve with an unspecified hip injury. It isn’t clear how serious the injury is, though.
Because McMath is on the initial 53-man roster, his placement on IR won’t end his season. Instead, he’ll miss at least the first four games.
Also per McCormick, McMath sustained the injury during the preseason finale in which he had one catch for 27 yards and and one carry for 17 yards.
It’s a tough blow for the LSU product, who carved out a role as the team’s deep threat in training camp. McMath was one of five receivers listed on the initial 53-man roster, which means the Titans are exceptionally thin at the position.
Tennessee will make at least one move to address their need, which could come via waivers, free agency or trade. The Titans will also have the option of reuniting with the receivers they cut once they clear waivers.
Expect to see some action on Wednesday.
