The Cincinnati Bengals and Joe Burrow might just wait until the finish line to get an extension done.
The finish line, of course, is the start of the regular season this Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
Buy Bengals TicketsAccording to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, rumblings suggest the secretive deal is close to wrapping up: “Both Burrow and the Bengals have kept major information from leaking, but based on my discussions, there’s optimism in the building and in the locker room that a deal could get done over the next few days.
Recently, an insider suggested the delay might be coming from Burrow’s camp. But as we suggested there, all signs have pointed to the two sides getting something done before he goes out there against the Browns.
The Bengals aren’t strangers to last-minute deals. In fact, they almost seem to prefer them when it comes to mega-stars — both Geno Atkins and A.J. Green are two notables who got last-second extensions this time of year.
Even if a deal doesn’t end up getting done before this weekend’s kickoff, there’s zero concern about Burrow’s attendance — be it due to contractual or injury reasons.
