Strapped at the quarterback position, the Saints are turning to a division rival's practice squad for an answer.
New Orleans is signing Panthers practice-squad quarterback Jake Luton, according to a Tuesday afternoon report from ESPN's Field Yates.
Luton, an Idaho and Oregon State product, has three career starts under his belt with the Jaguars in 2020. He threw two touchdown passes and six interceptions in 110 attempts.
The Saints are 2-1, but their quarterback room is rife with questions after an 18-17 loss to the Packers Sunday.
Starter Derek Carr sprained his AC joint in the loss and was replaced by backup Jameis Winston, who threw for 101 yards in defeat. Jake Haener, New Orleans's fourth-round draft pick out of Fresno State, was suspended six games on Sept. 6 after failing a drug test.

With Derek Carr banged up and Jake Haener suspended for 3 more games, Luton adds depth. This ensures Luton at least 3 weeks of pay at the 53-man roster rate.
Taysom Hill remains on the roster, but has been deployed largely as a gadget player.
The Saints are scheduled to host the Buccaneers on Sunday with first place in the NFC South at stake.
